Benoît Déchelotte

Baritone

French baritone Benoît Déchelotte was recently Count in Le Nozze di Figaro (Opéra éclaté), Scapin in a new staging of l’île de Merlin by Gluck, with the Opéra-Comique in Paris. He also performed Moralès and Dancaïre in Carmen, Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte (Les Escales lyriques), Escamillo in Carmen (St Pauls Opera), Belcore in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore (Longhope opera), Chairman Walsingham in A feast in time of Plague by César Cui (Oxford Opera Society), Le Cicérone in Paris, à nous deux! by Jean Françaix (Guildhall), Ben in Le Téléphone by Menotti and Valentin in Le Petit Faust by Hervé.

He is an Oxford International Song festival young artist alongside pianist Sarah Murer, he also took part in the Philippe Jaroussky Academy in 2022-2023.

Grand prize at the 2023 competition les maîtres du chant, he won the 2nd prize for men at the Concours international de Canari and competed in semifinals for Tenor Vinas competition in 2024.

Currently an Artist diploma student at the Ecole normale de musique, he graduated with a MPerf at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Samantha Malk and Stephan Loges, after having studied with Marcin Habela. Various masterclasses have allowed him to meet Tobias Truniger, Kamal Khan, Julia Bullock, Richard Hetherington, David Gowland and Craig Terry. During his studies, he was a recipient of the prestigious bursary by the International Opera Awards Foundation.

Benoît began studying piano at the age of 5 and then the organ with François Ménissier at the Rouen Conservatory, where he graduated in 2013. Finalist in 2017 at the Grand Prix Jean-Louis Florentz, he graduated with honors the same year in Eric Lebrun’s studio. He now performs regularly as a soloist or accompanist.
