Emerging Artist: Jia Huang

Chinese-born Baritone Jia Huang enjoys both opera and Songs repertoire performances in the U.K and China. After receiving his bachelor degree at the Nanjing University of the Arts under the Coloratura Mezzo-soprano Xunmei Liu, he was recommended by David Gowland as a recipient of the Principal scholarship to support his Masters studying at the Guidhall School of Music and Drama under Professor Stephan Loges.
He has garnered prizes in the numerous competitions: the second prize of The Vivalidi Operatic aria Award, the second prize of Handel operatic aria Award (the first place was vacant), prize winner of Hong Kong International Vocal Open Competition, among others.
Jia has performed completely and partial roles : The Soldier(Qiuzi), Steward(Flight)and Nireno (Giulio Cesare), Ariodante (Serse), Chorus (The Angel Esmeralda, world premiere ), Argante (Rinaldo), Astole (Les sibarites), Don Giovani (Don Giovani), Imeneo (Imeneo), Elviro (Serse).
Jia also put his passion into the Songs repertoire. He has been working with prestigious musicians including Peter Robinson, Iain Burnside , Eugene Asti, Bretton Brown, Lada Valesova, Stephen Rose, Clive Timms, among others. Jia has recently premiered Alex Ho’s Song Cycle “Letters From Home” with pianist Satoshi Kubo at the Royal Opera House.
Jia is currently studying for an Advanced Diploma at Opera department of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with the scholarship award.
