George Herbert

George was born in Manchester in 2001, and his passion for music was kindled in earnest as a chorister at Manchester Cathedral.

His debut album as a collaborative pianist, Rodrigo Ruiz’s ‘Venus and Adonis’ with Grace Davidson, won the Spanish prize ‘Melomano de Oro’ in January 2025. He has recently collaborated with Carolyn Sampson for the Rodolfus Choral Foundation, with Florian Stoertz for the London Bach Society, and with Susan Bullock. He looks forward to upcoming recitals with cellist Danushka Edirisinghe at Wigmore Hall, mezzo-soprano Klara Solen at Hallwyska in Stockholm, and violist Catherine White for City Music in London. He is a member of the Wigmore Hall's French Song Exchange programme, a Leeds Song Young Artist, and will participate in a Samling Artist Programme this year.

George studied German and Music at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he was organ scholar. Whilst at Cambridge he was a pianist on Joseph Middleton’s Pembroke Lieder Scheme. He is now studying for an MA in Ensemble Piano at the Royal Academy of Music with Professors Michael Dussek and James Baillieu, where he is a scholarship recipient and a member of the Academy Song Circle. He regularly receives duo coaching with Richard Stokes, Libby Burgess, cellist Hannah Roberts and violinist Robin Wilson. He received the Academy’s Major Van Someren-Godfrey accompanist’s prize in November 2025. He also studies singing at the Academy with Giles Underwood, and works regularly as a singer with Tenebrae choir. He has participated in masterclasses with Sir Thomas Allen, Malcolm Martineau and Roderick Williams.

He is passionate about interdisciplinary work, and has recently collaborated with composer David Roche on a Welsh language heavy metal project. He works with author Bernhard Malkmus on literary-musical project ‘Flight Paths’, with recent performances in Oxford, Newcastle and Regensburg. In 2025 he curated the ‘Chapel Lates’ chamber and song recital series at New College, Oxford. He is generously supported by the Choir Association of St John’s College, Cambridge.
