Maryam Wocial
Soprano
British soprano Maryam Wocial is a member of the Royal College of Music's International Opera Studio, studying with Mary Nelson, where she is supported by the Poppy Holden scholarship and Martin Harris scholarship. In Spring 2026, she will perform the title role in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera. Other roles at RCM include the Fox in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and Angel in Jonathan Dove’s Seven Angels. In RCM opera scenes, she has appeared as the Governess (The Turn of the Screw), Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea), and Ilia (Idomeneo).
A keen interpreter of song, Maryam was a Rising Star of Voice at the Shipston Song Festival, working alongside Ian Tindale, and at the 2025 Edinburgh International Festival, performing in concert at the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh alongside James Baillieu. She was an Atelier Lyrique Artist at the 2025 Verbier Festival where she received masterclasses from renowned interpreters of song, including Veronique Gens and Benjamin Appl, and was awarded the Prix Thierry Mermod.
In 2024, Maryam made her debut with the Mozartists and became the inaugural vocalist on the English Concert’s early career fellowship programme. Maryam was awarded the second prize at the 2025 International Handel Singing Competition and will return to the London Handel Festival with a recital in 2026. She is a Josephine Baker Trust artist and a 2026 Alvarez Emerging Artist with Garsington Opera, where she will cover the roles of Giunone/ La Fortuna in Monteverdi’s Il Ritorno d’Ulisse.
