Tom Randle

Tenor Tom Randle made his Royal Opera House debut in 1994 as Essex (Gloriana) with Opera North. He made his Royal Opera debut in 1997 as Johnny Inkslinger (Paul Bunyan) and has since sung Fool (Gawain) and Macheath (The Beggar’s Opera) for The Royal Opera, and Song of the Earth for The Royal Ballet.?In the 2018/19 Season he creates the role of Loki (The Monstrous Child).

Randle studied conducting and composition before turning to singing. His roles for English National Opera include Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Captain (Wozzeck), Ulysses (The Return of Ulysses) and Števa (Jenufa). Other engagements include Tom Rakewell (The Rake’s Progress) for Théâtre des Champs-Elysees and Dutch National Opera, Tamino for Deutsche Oper Berlin and Glyndebourne Festival, Ägisth (Elektra) for Liceu, Barcelona, and La Scala, Milan, Tristan (Le Vin herbé) and Bénédict (Béatrice et Bénédict) for Welsh National Opera, Don José (Carmen) for New Zealand Opera, Malatestino dall’Occhio (Francesca da Rimini) for Opéra national du Rhin, Painter (Lulu) for La Monnaie, Brussels, Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) in Munich and Los Angeles, and Idomeneo for Scottish Opera and La Monnaie. He has created roles in many contemporary operas, including Snaut (Fujikura’s Solaris), Captain (Mitterer’s Marta), Nunez (Turnage’s The Country of the Blind), Judas (Birtwistle’s The Last Supper) and Jack (Wuorinen’s Brokeback Mountain). Film appearances include Molqui (Death of Klinghoffer) for Channel 4 and Monostatos (Branagh’s The Magic Flute).

Randle’s compositions have been performed around the world, including by Opéra de Lille, at the Buxton and Presteigne festivals and The Broad Stage, Los Angeles. His operas A Telephone Call and Love Me To Death received their premieres at the Tête à Tête Opera Festival.
