33. Mark Padmore, Ana Manastireanu, Kate Kennedy: Britten’s Poets
20 October 2022, 3:00pm - 4:00pm
Mark Padmore gives a fascinating lecture-recital on Benjamin Britten’s relationships, both musical and personal, with four of the poets he set to music: W.H. Auden, Thomas Hardy, John Donne and William Soutar. He is joined by the writer and broadcaster Kate Kennedy, and as they examine the varying approach Britten takes to the setting of each poet's words, Mark performs selected songs with the excellent young pianist Ana Manastireanu.
