Song of the Earth

Shortly before embarking on Das Lied von Der Erde, following the death of his daughter Maria, Mahler wrote, ‘I have lost any calm and peace of mind that I have ever achieved. I stand face to face with nothingness, and now, at the end of my life, have to learn again to walk and stand.’ To guide us through Mahler’s exquisite confrontation with death, in the composer’s own version for piano, we are delighted to be joined by the 'multi-talented' (Financial Times) tenor Daniel Norman, Jess Dandy (‘stunning young contralto... sumptuous tone and beautiful legato’ The Times) and John Reid (‘a whole wealth of orchestral colour on his own’ Bachtrack).
