Emerging Artist: Emma Roberts

Emma recently graduated from RCM's International Opera Studio under the tutelage of Brindley Sherratt and Simon Lepper. A Britten Pears Young Artist for 2022/23 Emma will also be joining the National Opera Studio for this year. A Ferrier 2022 prize winner, Emma was awarded both the Loveday Song Prize for Debussy’s Colloque Sentimental and overall 2nd Prize. In March 2022 Emma won 1st Prize in the Joan Chissell Schumann Competition.

Emma has participated in masterclasses with Antonio Pappano, Julius Drake, Julia Faulkner, Gweneth Ann Rand, Sarah Connolly, Michael Chance and Ann Murray. Recent operatic roles include Minsk Woman for RCM production of Dove's Flight; Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel, RCM); Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte/RCM Opera Studio); Orfeo (Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice/Barefoot Opera), Zanetto (Zanetto/Barefoot Opera); Eduige (Rodelinda/RCM Opera Studio); Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana/The Opera Makers).

Concert highlights include; soloist at Athenaeum Club lunchtime recital curated by Sir Thomas Allen, soloist at Raynham Hall concert with RCM players curated by Michael Chance CBE, Young Artist for Iain Burnside's Ludlow English Song Festival 2021, mezzo solo in Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky (RCM symphony, conducted by Martin Brabbins and Mark Biggins); Turnage dramatic song cycle for mezzo and chamber orchestra ‘Twice Through the Heart’ (RCM New Perspectives, Turnage residency); Verdi Requiem (Leith Hill Musical Festival).
