Fflur Wyn

Having already gained wide acclaim for her performances on the operatic stage as well as the concert platform, Welsh soprano Fllur Wyn is quickly establishing herself as one of the country's foremost young singers. Having received a First Class Honours Degree from the Royal Academy of Music where she studied with Beatrice Unsworth and Clara Taylor, Fflur graduated from the Royal Academy Opera Course with the prestigious DipRAM for outstanding performance and has subsequently been elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) in recognition of her distinguished contribution to the music profession so far.

Fllur is the recipient of many awards and scholarships including both first prise and Audience prize at the London Handel Singing Competition, the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary for Young Singers, the London Welsh Singer of the Year, the Bryn Terfel Scholarship and the MOCSA Young Welsh Singer Prize.

Her operatic performances include Jemmy Guillaume Tell, Iphis Jephtha, Celia Lucio Silla, Blonde Die Entführung aus de Serail and Dorinda in Handel's Orlando (Welsh National Opera); Pamina The Magic Flute, Alice Alice in Wonderland, and the title role in Lakmé (Opera Holland Park); Barbarina Le Nozze di Figaro (La Monnaie); Governess Turn of the Screw (Mexico City); Sophie Werther, Marzelline Fidelio, Servilia La Clemenza di Tito, Blue Fairy Pinocchio, Waldvogel Siegfried, Achsah Joshua, Gretel Hänsel und Gretel, Flora Turn of the Screw, Clerida Croesus, Giannetta L'elisir d'amoure, Sophie Der Rosenkavalier (Opera North); Floriana in Leoncavallo's Zazà (Opera Rara); Mimi in Offenbach's Vert Vert (Garsington Opera); Michal Saul with the BBC Singers; and Celidora L'oca del Cairo with the London Mozart Players.

She is in demand as a singer of contemporary music and has created many roles including Blonde Woman in Oscar Bianchi's Thanks to my Eyes (Aix en Provence Festival, La Monnaie, Paris, Libson); Girl How the Whale Became by Julian Philips (Royal Opera House); Daughter in Elena Langer's The Lion's Face (The Opera Group, ROH); Adele Jane Eyre by Michael Berkeley (Music Theatre Wales); the title role in Will Todd's opera Alice's Adventures in Wonderland for Opera Holland Park; and La Plus Jeune Fille in Philippe Boesman's new opera Au Monde at La Monnaie.

Fllur has worked with many great conductors including Sir Colin Davis, Sir Charles Mackerras, Seiji Ozawa, Sir Richard Armstrong, Harry Bicket and Paul McCreesh, and some of her most notable concert performances include the title role in Handel Theodora (RIAS Kammerchor); Bach Christmas Oratorio (Combattimento Consort/Jan Willem de Vriend & the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra); Handel Jephtha (Cappella Amsterdam/Daniel Reuss); Haydn Harmoniemesse, Mozart Mass in C Minor and Handel Messiah (Royal Northern Sinfonia/Thomas Zehetmair); Haydn Creation (The Gabrieli Consort/Paul McCreesh); Handel Messiah (The English Concert/Harry Bicket); Mozart Exsultate Juilate (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The European Union Chamber Orchestra); Mozart Mass in C minor (Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra); Poulenc Gloria (London Philharmonic Orchestra/David Parry); Orff Carmina Burana (The Chamber Orchestra of Wales); Bach Coffee Cantata (Early Opera Group/Christian Curnyn); Acis and Galatea (La Nuova Musica/David Bates); Britten Les Illuminations (Northern Chamber Orchestra); and Mozart Concert Arias with the Aurora Orchestra at Kings Place, London. Fflur made her Proms debut in Mozart Thamos with John Lubbock and the Orchestra of St John's and her most recent recitals include performances at King's Place, St John's Smith Square, Wilton's Music Hall, The Howard Assembly Room and the Oxford Lieder Festival. 

Recent and future performances inlcude the roles of Susanne The Marriage of Figaro in a return to Opera North, where she recently sang Fire/Nightingale/Princess L'enfant et les Sortileges, and Trio Soprano Trouble in Tahiti; Vivetta L'arlesiana for Opera Hollan Park, where she previously revived her role in her critically acclaimed performance of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland; Esilena in Handel's Rodrigo with the Göttingen International Handel Festival; Fido Paul Bunyan for English National Opera; Cunegonde Candide for West Green House Opera; Handel's Ode for St Cecilia's Day with the English Concert under Harry Bicket; Bach's B Minor Mass with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, and at the Al Bustan International Festival in Beirut; Orff's Carmina Burana with the CBSO and the RSNO; and Bach's St Matthew Passion with the Dundein Consort.
