Hiroshi Amako

Born and growing up in Tsu, Japan, and later moving to North Wales, Hiroshi Amako is a postgraduate student studying with Ryland Davies and Iain Ledingham. Hiroshi is generously supported by a Help Musicians UK Maidment Award, The Countess of Munster Musical Trust, The Josephine Baker Trust and The Royal Academy of Music.

Recent stage appearances include the title role of Britten’s Albert Herring with Cambridge University Opera, Peter Quint in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, as Ruggero in Puccini’s La Rondine in RAM opera scenes, and as part of the chorus in Royal Academy Opera’s production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night. Hiroshi is a seasoned oratorio soloist, with a particular enthusiasm for Bach, reaching the finals in the 2015 London Bach Society Bach Singer’s Prize, as well as being a regular soloist for Royal Academy Music/Kohn Foundation Bach cantata projects. He also appears regularly as soloist for the Harpenden-based ensemble Amici Voices and Players, directed by Terrence Charlston.  As a budding recitalist, Hiroshi is part of the Royal Academy Song Circle; he has recently performed in the Wigmore Hall in their 115^th Anniversary Celebratory Concert series, as well as in the Embassy of Japan’s Green Park Youth Concert Series. Previously he read music at Trinity College Cambridge, where he was also a choral scholar. He also occasionally plays the modern and baroque violin, and used to play in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales.
