Julia Thaxton
Artist
Julia is based at OVADA studios in Oxford. Alongside her studio practice, she teaches experimental drawing in Oxford and London, running workshops that emphasise process over outcome and a multi-sensory approach to drawing.
Her paintings explore the sensation of immersion, informed by the sea and coastal landscapes. Her recent work has been created directly in the landscape it responds to. Alongside her paintings, Julia takes photographs of the canvas as it dries, capturing transitional moments in the painting's lifespan.
Julia has a Masters in Fine Art from Oxford Brookes and a BA in Classics from Cambridge University. She is also a fundraiser, with experience across higher education and politics.
