Myrna Tennant

Mezzo-Soprano

Originally from the Netherlands, Myrna is now based in Greenwich, London. She graduated with Distinction from the Artist Masters programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Yvonne Kenny andpreviously studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating with BMus Hons First Class, under the tutelage ofHelen Lawson and Wilma MacDougall.

Having initially trained and worked as a soprano, Myrna made the shift to Zwischenfach mezzo- soprano in 2023, and as a result has performed a wide and varied range of repertoire. Opera highlights include the title role in Massenet'sCendrillon, Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), and Dido (Dido and Aeneas). Recently, Myrna performed the small role of‘Employee’ alongside being a chorus member for Gods of the Game, a newly commissioned work for Sky Arts with GrangePark Opera. Myrna’s next opera engagement is the role of Filipyevna for Hampstead Garden Opera’s production ofEugene Onegin, with performances in November.

Myrna is a Britten Pears Young Artist for their 2023-24 programme, where she joined their English Song course underthe coaching of highly esteemed artists, Gweneth Ann Rand, Julia Faulkner, Julius Drake, and Audrey Hyland. She is also aBYO Serena Fenwick Young Artist for 2024, where she has the privilege of working with industry leading professionalsincluding Nicky Spence, Nelly Miricioiu, Allyson Devenish, and David Gowland.

She has been a finalist and prize winner in competitions including the Bampton Classical Opera ‘Young Singers Competition’, Hurn Court Opera’s ‘Singer of the Year’, the London Choral Sinfonia ‘Leach Award for Singing’, and BathOpera’s ‘Isobel Buchanan Award’.

During her studies, Myrna was enormously grateful to be generously supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Kathleen Trust, the Mario Lanza Educational Foundation, the Clemence Charitable Trust, and the Dewar Arts Awards,as well as a Guildhall School Financial Award scholarship.
