Sulaiman Haqpana
Sulaiman Haqpana, was born in Afghanistan in 1986 in an enlightened and educated family. He, along with his family, migrated to Pakistan when religious intolerance emerged in Afghanistan. Sulaiman completed his school in Peshavar and learned to play the tabla in ustad Ehsans Erfan’s musical academy. He continues to learn the tabla with different ustads and gurus.
After finishing school and a Business Diploma college in Pakistan, he returned to Afghanistan to work for IRC (International rescue committee) as a programme Manager. He then joined UNAMA and UNIFEM as Project Coordinator 2004 to 2008, before coming to London. In 2007, he had the privilege to become a youth member of Oxfam International Youth Parliament (OIYP) and attended the International Youth Parliament in Sydney, Australia. From 2011-2015, he completed a BA in Global Politics and International Relations from Birkbeck University of London, and a master’s degree in Social Policy and Development from London School of Economics (LSE). He joined the Voice of Santur in 2015 and has been performing regularly with the band.
