Tamara Stefanovich

One of the leading interpreters of contemporary piano repertoire today, Tamara Stefanovich dedicates herself to making the classical modern works as well as countless new compositions very much her own. With her uniquely tailored recital programmes and performances as soloist with the world’s leading orchestras, she captivates audiences worldwide. Her repertoire spans a wide range of piano concertos, from Liza Lim’s World as Lover, World as Self, Rebecca Saunders’ to an utterance and Magnus Lindberg’s Piano Concerto No. 3 to works by Ravel, Abrahamsen, Bartók, Szymanowski and Henze. Her recital projects include acclaimed marathons of 50 Études and 20 Sonatas.

Tamara Stefanovich starts her 2026/27 season by marking Hans Werner Henze’s 100th anniversary with a performance of the composer’s Tristan with NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester and Alan Gilbert at Musikfest Berlin, followed by appearances with Deutsches Symphonie- Orchester Berlin at Ultraschall Festival Berlin and Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Recital engagements include performances at Auditorium de Radio France, Boulez Saal Berlin and Wigmore Hall London, while her collaboration with her long-standing recital partner Matthias Goerne continues with appearances at Oxford International Music Festival and Grande Auditório Gulbenkian. 

Artistic ties link her to leading orchestras such as Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Tamara Stefanovich has worked with renowned conductors including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Kirill Petrenko, Vladimir Jurowski and Joana Mallwitz, and with composers such as Pierre Boulez, Sir George Benjamin, György Kurtág and Hans Abrahamsen.

Tamara Stefanovich is a regular guest at major international venues including London’s Royal Albert Hall and Barbican Hall, Philharmonie Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie de Paris, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam and Tonhalle Zürich, and appears at international festivals such as Salzburg Festival, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Hamburg International Music Festival, Flagey Piano Days, London Piano Festival and the BBC Proms. Her chamber music partners include Matthias Goerne and Pierre-Laurent Aimard.

Breaking new grounds, Tamara Stefanovich collaborates with Christopher Dell, Christian Lillinger and Jonas Westergard for the innovative band SDLW. After its astounding premiere at Kölner Philharmonie, the quartet performed in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and at Klangspuren Festival Schwaz. They released two albums on bastille musique in 2022 and in 2024, which have both been praised for their inventive and exciting sound. Their most recent album received the German Record Critics’ Award in 2024.

Her award-winning discography includes a recording of Kurtág’s Quasi una Fantasia and his double concerto with Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, Reinbert de Leeuw and Jean-Guihen Queyras for ECM which received the Edison Award. Her recording of Bartók’s Concerto for two pianos, percussion and orchestra with Pierre-Laurent Aimard and London Symphony Orchestra for Deutsche Grammophon was nominated for a Grammy Award. Recent releases include her solo albums Organised Delirium, devoted to Pierre Boulez’s Second Sonata, and Influences, dedicated to works by Ives, Bartók, Messiaen and Bach, as well as a recording of Anders Hillborg’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

Tamara Stefanovich regularly leads educational projects at London’s Barbican Centre, Kölner Philharmonie and Klavier-Festival Ruhr. She was co-founder and curator of the Portland International Piano Festival ‘The Clearing’ and Visiting Professor at the London Royal Academy of Music and Accademia di Musica Pinerolo.
