Biography
Will Bartlett read music at St. Peter's college, Oxford, specialising in composition and musical analysis as well as directing the Oxford University jazz orchestra.
Based in London from 2004-2018, he completed an MA in jazz performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Simon Purcell, John Taylor and Pete Churchill. He was awarded the Archer scholarship at Trinity college of music in 2005 and was pianist for the National Youth Jazz orchestra from 2005-2008.
As a pianist, he has played with Stan Sulzmann, Claire Martin, Matt Ford, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Anita Wardell, Shlomo, Keith Mansfield, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, The Ronnies Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra and the Manchester Camerata. He has recently studied Hammond organ with Mike Le Donne and piano with Jeb Patton and Jacob Sacks in New York. He has worked as pianist/Musical Director for Salena Jones and Ray Quinn, and written orchestrations for Emilia Mårtensson, Norma Winstone and Atila Huseyin. He is also the unofficial house pianist for The Royal Albert Hall.
Will has lived in Freiburg, Germany since 2018 working with the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra, directing the Freiburg youth jazz orchestra and founding a new piano trio, with whom he will record his debut trio album in 2023.
