26. Sibelius and Rachmaninov: Jacques Imbrailo & Alisdair Hogarth
16 October 2019, 1:05pm - 1:55pm
Jacques Imbrailo, recent star of the Royal Opera's acclaimed production of Billy Budd, and Alisdair Hogarth make a much-anticipated return to the Festival in a wonderful programme of songs by Sibelius and Rachmaninoff, including the high drama of ‘Svarta Rosor’ (‘Black Roses’) and the haunting ‘V molchan’i nochi taynoy’ (‘In the silence of the secret night’). These songs feature on their recent recording on Linn Records.
"a distinguished recital debut"
BBC Music Magazine
"Imbrailo’s handsome timbre and focus bring ample rewards – as do the sensitivity, care and intelligence of both performers... a rewarding release."
Gramophone, August 2018
"Jacques Imbrailo has become the Billy Budd of choice, and he is in fine form, singing with a warmth and fullness of voice that embodies all this divine character’s strength and goodness”
The Financial Times, April 2019
“There’s one superb central performance: Jacques Imbrailo’s touchingly impulsive, properly athletic and nobly sung Billy.”
The Times, April 2019
“… we have the definitive Billy – he’s sung this part so often he virtually owns it”
The Independent, April 2019
