8. Sleeping Beauty: Karla Grant & Jia Ning Ng

22 April 2023, 5:00pm - 6:00pm

Karla Grant and Jia Ning Ng have chosen Sleeping Beauty (Briar Rose) as their tale around which to build their programme. They write:

We both love fairytales, and we were drawn in particular to the Sleeping Beauty tale and the magic that the story holds. We were inspired to create this same kind of magic within our programme.

When deciding on our repertoire, our first idea was to create a clear journey through our song choices that we could share with the audience and take them along with us. We let ourselves be completely led by the text. We wanted the text of the songs to weave smoothly into the storyline and portray different characters from the tale. We also wanted our repertoire to create something special that the audience would connect with and invest in. We decided on a mix of well known favourites alongside a few lesser known to create a balanced and interesting programme. We’re both so excited to perform this programme and bring the tale of Briar Rose to life.
