40. Sir Thomas Allen, Anna Dennis, Hugh Cutting, James Atkinson et al.: A Poet’s Love

2022 is the 75th anniversary of the twinning of the cities of Oxford and Bonn and so this is an especially apt moment to launch a new international partnership with the BeethovenFest Bonn. Their Artistic Director, Steven Walter, devised this tantalising programme that will be performed at both festivals, blending poets’ differing perspectives of life and love through a reading of Thomas Mann’s short story Tonio Kröger - specially translated and abridged by Ray Ockenden - interspersed with Schumann’s Dichterliebe and Elena Langer’s Landscape for Three People.
We are thrilled to welcome our Patron, Sir Thomas Allen, to read, alongside the sensational soprano Anna Dennis, Kathleen Ferrier Awards-winner Hugh Cutting, and outstanding young baritone James Atkinson. The world-renowned oboist Nicholas Daniel performs alongside three superb string players and harpsichordist Richard Gowers for Elena Langer's brilliantly engaging cycle.
Our Emerging Artist slot, with soprano Caroline Taylor and pianist George Ireland, includes songs by the Bonn-born Romantic composer Johanna Kinkel.
