Schubert Birthday Concert
31 January 2027, 5:00pm - 6:15pm
It’s become something of a tradition at Oxford Song to celebrate Schubert’s birthday with a Schubertiade of our own, and this year Sholto Kynoch is joined by the Austrian mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert. Respected for her dramatic prowess in the operas of Handel, Rossini and Mozart, and honoured by the Salzburg Festival and the Vienna Konzerthaus, Rennert has a special affinity for the lieder repertoire – combining a beautifully refined tone with a natural instinct for drama. Gramophone was swept away by “the sheer quality of the musicianship on display” in her recent Schubert album Irrlichter; and her Oxford debut will – naturally – be Schubert all the way.
