Oxford Lieder at Fairlight Hall: Alice Privett sings Schubert, Strauss and Mahler

27 January 2019, 11:00am 27 July 2024 - 12:39am

This concert is presented in partnership with Fairlight Hall, near Hastings. To buy tickets, please visit the Fairlight Hall website. The programme will be repeated at Wolfson College in Oxford on Thursday 31 January.

Soprano Alice Privett made a sensational impression at last year’s Oxford Lieder Festival, giving an exceptional performance of Schoenberg’s seminal Pierrot Lunaire as well as stepping in at short notice for songs by Zemlinsky. Alice grew up in Hastings and is delighted to be giving this recital on ‘home turf’. With Schubert’s birthday just a few days away (31 January), we celebrate his rich legacy with a number his songs that include the famous settings of Goethe’s character Mignon, from his epic novel Wilhelm Meister.  Alice also performs Strauss’s 'Ophelia' songs and Mahler's powerful Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen ('Songs of a Wayfarer').
