Schubert & Mahler

Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling brings the first day of the Schubert Weekend to a conclusion with the composer’s settings of the poet Friedrich Rückert, with whom Schubert had a fascination in 1823. These are performed alongside Mahler’s five Rückert settings, written in the first two years of the 20th century and a core part of the song repertoire ever since. Camilla Tilling and pianist Sholto Kynoch also draw parallels between Mahler’s and Schubert’s folk-inspired songs.
