1. Trolls, Myths and Mountains: Claire Booth, Christopher Glynn, Daniel Grimley & Heather O'Donoghue
11 October 2019, 11:30am - 2:30pm
Nordic legends, Norse gods, trolls and magical landscapes: a riveting exploration of these influences on the music of Edvard Grieg begins the Festival. In the first part of this event, Heather O’Donoghue will introduce key stories and characters from Old Norse myths, interspersed with songs and piano music. Daniel Grimley, who led last year’s Nordic Song day, then introduces ‘Haugtussa’, the mystic mountain-dwelling protagonist of Grieg’s only song cycle, before a complete performance of the cycle by acclaimed soprano Claire Booth and pianist Christopher Glynn.
There will be a one-hour break, 12.30pm-1.30pm, and a light lunch will be available for purchase in advance (£7)
Please note: Blue Badge parking should be arranged directly with St Hilda's Lodge. Oxford Lieder is unable to allocate onsite spaces.
