Immortal Mozart
11 October 2026, 11:30am - 2:15pm
Presented in association with Garsington Opera
‘O Mozart, immortal Mozart: how endlessly many comforting perceptions of a brighter and better life have you brought to our souls!’
Schubert, diary entry, 13 June 1816
This enchanting, beautiful and playful programme coaxes out connections between Mozart’s operas and Schubert’s songs. Some of the most popular arias and duets from Don Giovanni and, in particular, Die Zauberflöte are almost directly quoted by Schubert, who revered Mozart, in his songs. Hearing them side by side illuminates both in surprising and delightful ways.
All tickets include tea and coffee on arrival (from 11am), and a two-course informal meal served during a lunch interval (c.12.15pm–1.30pm). Please note the half marathon taking place in Oxford this morning may cause diversions: please allow extra time if travelling from Oxford to reach Garsington.
