Clara's Piano: Bryony Williams, John Mark Ainsley & David Owen Norris
19 October 2016, 7:30pm 17 November 2024 - 10:35am
Pianist, writer and broadcaster David Owen Norris plays on one of Clara Schumann's own pianos, recently arrived on long-term at the Birmingham Conservatoir. Exploring the sound world of the 1840s, his programme with Bryony Williams and John Mark Ainsley includes songs by Clara Schumann, as well as Robert's settings of Eichendorff, the Op. 39 Liederkreis. They also perform songs by William Sterndale Bennett, the English composer who was Schumann's friend and the founder of the UK's first Bach Society, whose 200th anniversary falls this year.
You may also enjoy our public masterclass this afternoon with world-renowned mezzo-soprano Sarah Walker, as she leads four talented young duos through Schumann's Eichendorff Liederkreis, Op.39 (2:30pm at Magdalen College).
