Die schöne Müllerin
13 March 2026, 7:45pm - 9:00pm
Rafael Fingerlos made a triumphant debut at Garsington Opera in 2024 as Count Almaviva in Le nozze de Figaro, and appears regularly in major roles at the State Opera in his home city of Vienna. He is also a renowned recitalist, and we are delighted to welcome him to Oxford for the first time to perform Schubert’s masterful song cycle Die schöne Müllerin (‘The fair maid of the mill’). It is the story of a young man driven to despair by his unrequited love for the beautiful miller’s daughter, and the sequence of poems – originally written by Wilhelm Müller for a domestic entertainment – inspired Schubert to create music of an astonishing range and depth.
