Robert, Clara & Johannes: Aoife Miskelly, Johnny Herford & William Vann

28 October 2016, 1:10pm 18 December 2024 - 10:55am

Johannes Brahms burst into the lives of Robert and Clara Schumann in 1853. Clara noted in her diary that "a wonderful person...as if sent straight from God" had appeared in their lives. As Robert declined into his mental illness, Brahms was a rock to Clara, and the two became very close. How close, we will never know, but an extraordinary series of letters between the two survives, and in this recital we hear the letters of Robert, Clara and Johannes threaded among some of the fascinating songs that these three composers wrote during those troubled years.

Please note that this concert also forms part of the study day 'Late Style and Legacy' and is included in the ticket price for the day.

Why not purchase a Lunchtime Pass? This pass gives access to all ten lunchtime recitals, weekdays at 1:10pm, for £100. The price includes a discount and provides access to popular recitals which have sold out, such as Roderick Williams on Monday the 24th of October and Dame Felicity Lott on Wednesday the 26th.
