Winterreise

Matthias Goerne is an international star, acclaimed the world over for his electrifying performances. We are thrilled to welcome him to Oxford for the first time, in a rare UK performance. He is joined by Tamara Stefanovich, one of today’s leading pianists, hailed for her captivating performances across a wide range of repertoire. Together, they perform Schubert’s Winterreise. When Schubert’s friends first heard his new cycle of songs in 1827, they were perplexed by its stark, raw energy, but Schubert assured them that they would come to appreciate it. He was proved right, and the 24 songs of this transcendent ‘winter journey’ have enthralled countless listeners for nearly 200 years.
