Lyrisches Intermezzo

16 October 2016, 1:45pm - 3:00pm

TICKETS TO THIS CONCERT ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE ONLINE BUT WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR

A chance to hear Heinrich Heine's complete Lyrisches Intermezzo, his collection of poetry which inspired so many songs. Celebrated Austrian actor Cornelius Obonya - known in particular for his portrayal of Hoffmannsthal's Jedermann ('Everyman') at the Salzburg Festival -  reads the collection, with Schumann's settings interspersed, performed in the order in which they appear in Heine's original. We thus hear all the songs of Dichterliebe, including the four songs that Schumann chose to leave out of the cycle on publication. Austrian baritone Klemens Sander makes a welcome return to the Festival after his memorable recitals in 2013 and at the 2014 Schubert Project.

This recital lasts 75 minutes, without interval.

See your name (or that of a dedicatee) alongside the Schumann song of your choice and help ensure the future of Oxford Lieder by sponsoring a song from £25. Thank you.
